PROJECT OVERVIEW

JC VOLUNTEER TOGETHER is a five-year project to comprehensively promote citywide volunteerism. Launched in collaboration with 12 partner organisations it is designed to encourage and mobilise students, people aged 50+ and retirees as well as the general public to do good for the community. It comprises:

ONE-STOPE DIGITAL PLATFORM

JC Volunteer Together Platform

JC VOLUNTEER TOGETHER PLATFORM is collaborating with six organisations to offer volunteers an integrated experience to discover volunteering opportunities around town, and register for and keep track of volunteering activities. Volunteers can also receive recognition by accumulating volunteer hours throughout the year. Surprises await as a token of appreciation! 

Students

School-based programme

JC Volunteer Together – School-based Programme is initiated and funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and in partnership with the Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong (BGCA), Caritas Hong Kong (Caritas) and the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) to promote volunteerism at primary and secondary schools.

The Programme delivers a tailored volunteer education programme which includes experiential and project-based learning to nurture students’ empathy and raise students’ awareness of the positive values of volunteering.
  • Primary and secondary school students
  1. Thematic-based content with extensive experiential learning elements
  2. Deliver class-based volunteer service training and outing
  3. Provide learning management system to faciliate students to record their good deeds

1. Volunteer Experiential Programme

  • Programme objective: Develop students’ empathy
  • Programme duration: 3 sessions (1 hour per session)
  • Programme characteristic: In-depth teaching on specific social issues supported by experiential activities and group discussion

2. Volunteer Practical Programme

  • Programme objective: Strategically connect schools with community resources
  • Programme duration: 3 sessions (1 to 3 hour per session)
  • Programme characteristic: Class-based service outing with pre and post service training and debriefing

3. Volunteer Leadership Programme

  • Programme objective: Create and lead volunteer service
  • Programme duration: 6 sessions (1 hour per session)
  • Programme characteristic: Equip students with design thinking and service planning skills to lead a self-initiated service project with seed funding up to $2,000 per group.

50+

50+ AND RETIREES PROGRAMME

The Programme motivates 50+ community members to volunteer their time and skills through diverse service opportunities, and participate in service-based training to design and lead their own volunteering initiatives. The aim is to unleash their potential and apply experience and skills to nurture an active and meaningful third age. In partnership with The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong, St. James’ Settlement, and Hong Kong Young Women’s Christian Association, the Programme includes two main project components:

 

1. Volunteer Service Programme

  • Target participant: 50+ and retirees who are new to volunteer services
  • Number of service session: 1 – 3 sessions
  • Thematic topics: Elderly vists, festive visits, mental health support, Collect Food Leftovers, Promotion of Emerging Sports, etc
 
2. Volunteer Leadership Programme
  • Target participant: 50+ and retirees who are experienced in volunteer services, enjoy communicating and collaborating with others, and are willing to take new challenges
  • Remarks: Participants are required to attend all training sessions and service opportunities

Direct Service

To take a more proactive role to engage hidden/untapped segments, in particular family and first time volunteers, to participate volunteering through our offerings of diverse, thematic-based and interesting volunteer opportunities. Through participation of JCVT-titled volunteering opportunities, we hope to nurture a more connected and vibrant volunteering community.
